Tbilisi dates back more than 1500 years and was founded by Vakhatang Gorgasali king of Georgia.
The name derives from the Georgian word meaning Warmth “ T’pili”. (It explains the kindness and warmth of the locals). A friend of mine who has visited the city before kept assuring me how nice and kind the people of Georgia are.
I think it is safe to say this Mountainous country is religious, with thousands of churches and monasteries they have and still cherish up to date. At every monastery or church you visit there are groups of tourists from around the world.
Among the sites you will visit is the Greek Orthodox basilica, the city’s Oldest Church, the 13th century Church of Sioni and Metekhi, the magnificent Narikala fortress perched on a hill with superb views of the city below. Continue to one of Tbilisi’s newest attractions, the classical freedom square as well as the Glass bridge that gives you a great view of the statue of “Mother of Georgia”.
Tbilisi’s compact size means you can easily explore the nearby synagogue, Armenian Church and mosque in addition to the Georgian orthodox churches that are fundamental to Georgian culture.
I will definitely be back again Georgia.
Enjoy! π¬πͺ
